‘Infectious Diseases at the Worth Library‘ website launched on 1 December.
To mark the launch, Dr Cliona NÃCheallaigh (St James’ Hospital) gave a paper on the topic ‘21st Century Perspectives on Consumption: Host Immune Responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis’ in the Worth Library on 1 December. Infectious diseases will form the theme of the 2011 Spring Lecture series at the Worth Library. The Worth Library held an Open Day on Friday 3 December in order to facilitate access to the terrestial section of the exhibition.
15 December: Richard Steevens and 300 Years of Trinity Medicine
The 15th December will mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Richard Steevens, the founder of Dr Steevens’ Hospital. As part of a series of commemorations the Worth Library and the School of Medicine of Trinity College Dublin are organising an afternoon of papers on the history of the Hospital:
2.00pm – Welcome from Dr Laverne McGuinness, National Director, Performance and Financial Management of the Health Services Executive, who will open a photographic exhibition, and outline the programme for the afternoon.
Professor Colm O’Morain, Dean of Health Sciences, Trinity College, Dublin will speak about Richard Steevens and 300 years of Trinity Medicine.
2.15 pm Mini Conference to mark the 300th anniversary of Richard Steevens’s Death: short papers by Mr Gearoid O’Brien (Westmeath County Library) Ms Lisa Lambert (TCD); Professor Davis Coakley (Professor of Medical Gerontology, TCD), and Professor Bill Mc Cormack (Edward Worth Library, retired)

4.00 pm Launch of The Alchemy of Medicine and Printed (Four Courts Press), with some introductory words by the editor, Dr Danielle Westerhof.
